OBC agitation today: the column demand, Ranchi march and next dates

Editorial illustration, not a real photo. Demands are from organisations. A court order is separate. Not legal advice. Status on 3 October 2026.

What is the OBC agitation today is the plain question on 3 October 2026. This is not the Election Commission protest. The demand is a separate OBC column in the caste census. Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar announced the plan from Vidarbha. He cited a 13 September meeting of about 65 organisations in Delhi.

What is on the street today

Ranchi has a march called for the evening of 3 October, from Jaipal Singh Stadium to Albert Ekka Chowk. Organisers also spoke of burning an effigy of the notification. That is a local programme. A nationwide crowd figure is not public.

Taluka satyagrahas were planned for 2 October, Gandhi Jayanti and Shastri Jayanti. A full list of how many talukas sat is not public. Do not write that the whole country was shut.

The demand in one line

The census form has columns for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. OBC groups say there is no separate column for them. Wadettiwar said that without a population figure, representation and reservation become harder. A fresh government notification answering this was not public on 3 October.

The next dates are clear. Jharkhand: torchlight on 5 October, bandh and road block on 6 October, a dharna at the deputy commissioner on 7 October. District marches on 25 October. Chalo Delhi from 1 November. The final shape of 1 November is still to be fixed in a joint meeting.

Keep the other fights separate

Madhya Pradesh 27 percent and the held posts are another case. Maharashtra Maratha and Kunbi certificates are another. The Uttar Pradesh teacher recruitment is another. The Bengal certificate case is another. Several OBC headlines in one week are not one morcha.

Central OBC reservation is 27 percent, in place after the 1992 Indra Sawhney ruling. State percentages differ. The 50 percent ceiling is a question, not a verdict in this article.
