A road block is called in Jharkhand on 6 October. The Central Backward Classes Struggle Committee named Khunti, Gumla, Ranchi, Simdega and Lohardaga. The reason is no separate OBC column in the caste-census form. This is not the voter-list protest.
Three days
5 October evening is a torch rally and effigy burning. 6 October is a shop bandh and road block. Prabhat Khabar reported the Khunti plan. Dainik Bhaskar reported the Gumla bandh. 7 October is a dharna at the district headquarters, with a memorandum to the Centre through the deputy commissioner.
Ranchi also had a march called for the evening of 3 October, from Jaipal Singh Stadium to Albert Ekka Chowk. That was not this dharna. A crowd figure for it was not public when this was written.
Will Ranchi to Gumla be blocked
The committee spoke of national and state highways. The junction and the hours will come in a police bulletin. A banner is not a diversion map. Check Gumla and Ranchi traffic notes before leaving. School closure needs a district order. A patient should keep a second road.
The demand
The committee says Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes have a column, OBCs do not. No fresh central notification answering this was public on 3 October. No court has given a final order on the column. The 25 October district march and 1 November Chalo Delhi are the national calendar, not this road block.
