The Khunti OBC dharna is set for 7 October. OBC means Other Backward Classes. The Central Backward Classes Struggle Committee’s programme is three days. The evening of 5 October is a torch rally and effigy burning. 6 October is a shop bandh and a road block. 7 October is a dharna at the deputy commissioner’s office and a memorandum. The demand is a separate OBC column on the caste-census form. A dharna and a road block are not the same thing.
This is the call as of 3 October 2026. Not a police order. A clock time is not in the public reports. There is no crowd number.
Where the dharna is
The committee named the deputy commissioner’s office compound. Prabhat Khabar printed Khunti’s three-day programme. The memorandum is to go to the Centre through the deputy commissioner. A clock, meaning 10 in the morning or 2 in the afternoon, is not written in these reports. So do not write that the office is shut from morning. Whether the office opens is what the district order will say.
The 6 October block is a call about the road and the market. The 7 October programme is sitting at the office. A child’s school and a patient’s hospital are not part of the dharna. Do not treat both as a block. Dainik Bhaskar reported a bandh and a block from Gumla on 6 October. Gumla’s block is not Khunti’s dharna.
Five districts
The committee named five districts. Khunti, Gumla, Ranchi, Simdega and Lohardaga. This is not a shutdown of all of Jharkhand. Other districts are not in this call. Ranchi had a separate call for a march on the evening of 3 October, from Jaipal Singh Stadium to Albert Ekka Chowk. That is not the 7 October dharna. A number for how many people came out is not public.
On 24 September people from the Jharkhand OBC society met the governor. Dr Suraj Mandal spoke of a clear count of every sub-caste. On 21 September in Hazaribagh the Rashtriya OBC Morcha gave a memorandum to the commission. They put the population at about 70 percent. That is a claim. Not a census number. The dharna does not turn that claim into a table.
The demand is the column
The form has a column for ST, SC and others. It does not have a separate column for the backward classes. In 2011 castes were written by hand, and the data could not be read. The demand is for a column named OBC, and a drop-down. A column being added will not raise the Centre’s 27 percent by itself. The dharna is not an order raising the quota. A memorandum is a demand. Not a department appointment letter.
This is not the 2 October taluka satyagraha. That was a date on Wadettiwar’s calendar. This is also not Chalo Delhi on 1 November. The committee is different. The place is different.
What to make of that day
If you are going to Khunti on 7 October, the talk is of the deputy commissioner’s compound. A road block is not the call for that day. The block is the 6th. Whether a school is shut, check the district order. If WhatsApp says all of Jharkhand is shut, ask for the five district names. If the names are not there, do not treat it as a state bandh.

The numbers here are the numbers in the reports. 5, 6 and 7 October. Five districts. About 65 organisations at the Delhi meeting of 13 September, that is the national base. No Khunti clock time. No crowd number. 70 percent is a claim.
A candidate with a roll number should not read a result from this dharna. The result is on the board’s site. Check the state list for whether the name is on the OBC list. A photo of the memorandum is not a cutoff. If a forward quotes a crowd in lakhs, ask for an official count.
Read the three days apart
The evening of 5 October is the torch rally. A road block is not the call for that evening. 6 October is the shop bandh and the block. A dharna at the office is not the call for that day. 7 October is the dharna and the memorandum. Even if all three land in one video, they are three programmes. Read the date in the caption. If there is no date, the video is not fixed to one day.
It is also not fixed that the five districts will have the same programme. Khunti’s three days are in Prabhat Khabar. Gumla’s bandh and block on the 6th are in Bhaskar. The committee named Ranchi, Simdega and Lohardaga. Each district’s clock can differ. Do not paste one district’s poster on the whole state.
The memorandum is to go to the Centre through the deputy commissioner. The deputy commissioner’s office is not a post office. Whether the paper was taken will show from a receipt. If there is no receipt, do not treat the memorandum as delivered. A column notice is issued by the census office. The dharna is not that notice.
The held recruitment in Madhya Pradesh, the Bengal certificate and the teacher recruitment in Uttar Pradesh do not open because of this dharna. The roll number is on your portal. Check the state OBC list for whether the name is on it.
Advice:
The plain point is this. A dharna is called for 7 October at the deputy commissioner’s office in Khunti. Torch rally on 5, road block on 6. The demand is an OBC column. This is not a police order. A clock time is not public. Check the district order for a school, a hospital and a road. The dharna will not give an appointment letter. Do not throw the paper. Treat the column as added only when a government notice is visible.
