People ask which goddess it is today because the nine days do not stay on one name. The count starts on Ghatasthapana. For Sharadiya Navratri 2026 that beginning is being kept as Sunday 11 October, and the ninth day as 19 October. If the household panchang moves a tithi, follow the panchang. This chart is a memory aid, not a gazette.

| 7 | 17 October | Kalaratri | Kalratri |

Where the count starts
On day one the kalash is seated, barley or wheat is sown, and Shailputri is named. Many homes read near sunrise and do aarti in the evening. The next name changes at the next sunrise, not at noon. If Pratipada stretches over two dates, a local panchang decides which morning the kalash sits. This site cannot cut that muhurat.
What the house does each day
Day one is the daughter of the mountain. New work, a new class, a shop ledger — several neighbourhoods open them on this morning. Day two is tapas. Mishri goes in the thali, talk is less, study is more. Day three is Chandraghanta, the bell-shaped moon on the brow. Children forget this name most often, which is why the chart goes on the wall.
Day four is Kushmanda. Both spellings, Kushmanda and Koochmanda, search the same goddess. Day five is Skandamata, Kartikeya in the lap. Day six is Katyayani. Kanya pujan in many homes falls on this day or near Ashtami and Navami. The custom is not one. Day seven is Kalaratri, the night form. The lamp is not rushed out. Day eight is Mahagauri, white cloth. Day nine is Siddhidatri. Havan and the girls’ meal often sit here. Vijayadashami is a separate tithi. Do not fold it into Navami.
Misspelt searches
Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri. Phones open on these spellings. The meaning does not change. The order does not change. Day three does not take another name in another city.
How to use the chart
Check the date in the morning, read the name in the table, say that mantra, set that bhog. A status does not need a whole purana. Name, day, and “match the panchang” are enough. Durga Chalisa can be read on all nine days. It is not locked to one.
