What is the 87:13 formula

What is the 87:13 formula

The formula is from the circular and from reports. A final court order is a separate document. Not legal advice. 3 October 2026.

The 87:13 formula is the recruitment path in Madhya Pradesh. Appointments moved on 87 percent of posts. The 13 percent tied to the extra OBC quota stayed on hold until a verdict. Hold does not mean cancelled. On that 13 percent, separate provisional lists of OBC and unreserved candidates were prepared, so letters could follow an order.

This path is from 2022

In 2019 the OBC share was raised from 14 to 27. Petitions followed. Recruitment began to stall, and the formula came in 2022. Fact-check reports put the general-administration circular at 29 September 2022. It is not an eight-year-old rule. That is why the 4.87 lakh line, built on eight years, does not sit on this formula. The January 2025 hearing is not the final order

Newspapers did not agree on the Jabalpur hearing of January 2025. One report said the bench let the 87:13 path continue as an interim plan, and kept the stay on the rise to 27. Another headline said the formula was rejected. Two headlines are not one order. The provisional list on the 13 percent exists so both claims survive.

The 87 percent letter and the 13 percent letter are different

A name on the 87 percent list can already have a letter. A name on the 13 percent hold gets a letter after the verdict and a department order. The 22 September 2026 letter asked for appointments on those held posts. That is a demand. Related pages: when the appointment letter comes and is 27 percent in force.

Advice:

Match the roll number on mppsc.mp.gov.in or the department site, in the exam you sat. A name on the hold or provisional list is not a cutoff fail. A letter already issued on the 87 percent side is not the letter for the 13 percent hold. A WhatsApp date saying the formula is cancelled is not an order.
