Who is Abhijeet Dipke?
The man on the Mumbai microphone on 2 October 2026 demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation is Abhijeet Dipke, founder and national convenor of the Cockroach Janta Party. The name came from a public remark about unemployed youth and cockroaches. Dipke turned the insult into a banner. Reuters described him by July as the most recognisable face of this Gen Z protest wave.
Published profiles put his birth on 29 September 1995 in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. His father Bhagwanrao Dipke is described as a retired MIDC engineer and his mother Anita as a homemaker. Reports identify him as a Dalit Buddhist from the Mahar community. That is biography from public profiles, not an official character certificate.
What did he do before the protests?
Before the movement he worked with the Aam Aadmi Party social-media team and as a communications adviser in the Delhi government’s education department, according to reports. The tool of mobilisation was not new. He launched CJP around May 2026 as political satire online. Unemployment and exam leaks were the fuel. The NEET-UG leak allegations made it national.
June brought a Jantar Mantar protest. A camp held through June and July. PTI said the agitation lasted 36 days. On 25 July 2026 Dharmendra Pradhan said he had sent his resignation to the Prime Minister. CJP then withdrew the sit-in. The resignation is confirmed. Every extra claim about compensation and FIRs is not separately verified here.
Why the target changed in October
July aimed at the education ministry. October aims at the Chief Election Commissioner. The bridge is the Indian Express report on at least 14 objections by Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. Dipke framed it as vote chori. The opposition was already attacking SIR. On 2 October the youth stage and the opposition stage shared a theme, not an organisation. Delhi had AISA, Prashant Bhushan, Manoj Jha and AAP. Mumbai was CJP’s stage. Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi and Vishal Dadlani appeared there.
Dipke praised Mumbai Police and accused Delhi Police of harshness. Jantar Mantar 2.0 on 10 October is the next line of that speech. In a Wire conversation he repeated allegations about the 20 July lathi charge. Those are his allegations.
What supporters and critics say
Supporters say July proved young people can force accountability. Critics say a satire outfit has been turned into an opposition front, and voter rolls are harder than an exam leak. A third view says deleted names are a personal loss, so the crowd is not only a party line. All three are readable. None is the whole truth yet.
Age and style win Discover clicks. They are not enough for a report. Enough is a written demand, a sourced number, and the removal procedure. Dipke is a convenor, not an MP. His ultimatum is political pressure.
Questions people are asking
How old is he?
Profiles list 29 September 1995. That puts him around 31 in 2026.
Is he a party leader?
He is CJP convenor. Reports link him earlier to AAP social media. This article does not establish CJP as a registered national party.
Did he force the education minister out?
Resignation was the lead demand, and Pradhan resigned on 25 July 2026. The government did not say the crowd was the only reason.

Separate the face from the file. Learn the biography, decide from the voter roll. July’s resignation is history. It does not auto-write October’s result. Before you share a clip, check whether the sentence is a demand or a completed fact. If you plan to go, read the permission and any Section 163 order first.
