10 October Jantar Mantar 2.0: the ultimatum to Gyanesh Kumar

Who announced Jantar Mantar 2.0?

By the night of 2 October 2026 the fastest new question was what happens next. Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke said after the Shivaji Park protest in Mumbai that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had until 10 October. If there was no resignation, CJP would hold a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. He called it Jantar Mantar 2.0. That is an announcement, not news that a resignation has already happened.

2 October was Gandhi Jayanti. Jantar Mantar in Delhi was sealed the same day, while Mumbai saw a jail-bharo mobilisation. Dipke’s date is the next step in that sequence. Times Now Navbharat and CJP updates recorded 10 October. Crowd size, police permission and any fresh prohibitory order were not settled by the morning of 3 October.

What does the ultimatum actually demand?

The core demand is that Gyanesh Kumar leave office. CJP has also asked for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls to stop and for the 2025 voter list to be frozen. Co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka has claimed about 13 crore names were removed. That is the organisation’s claim, not an Election Commission admission. The Commission says revision removes duplicates and ineligible entries, and that allegations show only part of the picture.

Dipke also said Gen Z would come to Delhi if “Gyanu” did not go. That is political language, not a legal notice. A street deadline does not by itself remove a Chief Election Commissioner. Removal is by resignation or a parliamentary process similar to that for a Supreme Court judge.

What already happened between the lines?

Delhi Police had not granted permission for 2 October. Section 163 restricted gatherings, slogans and speeches. Reports said 11 to 12 metro stations were closed and internet was limited nearby. Detention figures ranged from about 500 to 1,100. In Mumbai, permission was denied, yet the special branch estimated 9,000 to 10,000 people at Shivaji Park by 4 pm. The gathering stayed largely peaceful. Dipke praised Mumbai Police and criticised Delhi Police.

The INDIA bloc’s Save Democracy march is a separate programme. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said on 30 September that district marches would run from 2 to 8 October. Do not merge that with CJP’s 10 October plan. Three strands share a theme and not a stage: the 2 October Delhi student and civil-society effort, CJP’s Mumbai rally and Delhi call, and the opposition’s district marches.

Why July keeps coming up

CJP moved from online satire to the street in May and June 2026 over exam-paper leaks. A long sit-in followed at Jantar Mantar. PTI reported that after 36 days, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on 25 July 2026 and the agitation was withdrawn. That record is why 10 October is not being read as an empty date. The difference is the office. A cabinet minister is a political post. The Chief Election Commissioner is a constitutional post. July is not a guarantee for October.

The Indian Express report is the new fuel. It said Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi recorded objections at least 14 times in 10 months on SIR and related processes. The Commission said final decisions were unanimous. Dissent raises an accountability question. It does not by itself prove a crime.

What to watch on 10 October

Watch permission first. Delhi Police did not open Jantar Mantar on 2 October. Section 163 may return. Watch other cities second. Dipke spoke of more stops before Delhi. Watch the opposition third. AAP leaders were detained on 2 October. Whether they join on 10 October is a separate decision. Watch the Commission fourth. No resignation by Gyanesh Kumar had been confirmed by the morning of 3 October.

Treat crowd numbers carefully. Organisers and police differed in July too. On 10 October one side may say lakhs and the other thousands. Also separate detention from arrest. Most 2 October cases were reported as detentions, not charge-sheeted arrests for every name.

Questions people are asking

विज्ञापन

Is the 10 October protest confirmed?

The announcement is confirmed. Police permission was not, as of 3 October morning.

Has Gyanesh Kumar resigned?

No confirmed resignation as of 3 October 2026 morning. A demand is not a resignation.

Is this the same as the Save Democracy march?

No. That march is a 2 to 8 October district programme. 10 October is CJP’s separate call.

एडवाइस:

Remember the date, not the rumour. Until 10 October check only three things: whether the Election Commission site has a resignation or a clarification, whether Delhi Police has renewed Section 163, and whether your own name is on the roll. Do not decide the fate of a constitutional office from a crowd video. If your name is missing, take the paper trail from the booth level officer before you take a slogan.
