A subscription you approved months ago is still debiting your account, but you cannot remember which UPI app created the mandate. BHIM MyUPI provides a consolidated place to review active UPI AutoPay mandates and subscriptions. The useful question is not only which mandate exists, but also what service it funds and what happens if you pause or cancel it.
What is a mandate?
A UPI AutoPay mandate authorizes future debits under agreed terms. A subscription is a common example, but mandates may also relate to bills, other services and special payment arrangements. Do not identify one solely from an abbreviated merchant name on a bank statement. Read its details in MyUPI and confirm the linked bank account before taking action.
Where do you find them?
Sign in to BHIM, open the MyUPI banner on the home page and select Continue to MyUPI. Look in the AutoPay or mandates area for active mandates and subscriptions. BHIM’s support guidance also mentions IPO and UPI Circle mandates where applicable. If you have multiple bank accounts, check the account associated with each entry and inspect any upcoming debit details shown.
Pause, resume or cancel?
Pause is a temporary halt, resume restores an eligible paused mandate, and cancel ends the authorization. BHIM lists all three actions, although what appears for a particular mandate can depend on its status and terms. Read both the confirmation screen and the provider’s rules. Accidentally stopping an important utility bill or investment contribution can affect the underlying service or obligation.
Trace an unexpected debit
Compare the transaction date, amount, merchant and linked account with the mandate details. MyUPI is designed to help identify which recurring authorization produced a debit. If a payment looks unauthorized, cancelling the subscription alone is not enough. Notify your bank immediately, save the transaction reference and use the relevant complaint channel.
Safety Switch is broader
MyUPI Safety Switch pauses outgoing UPI debits, including AutoPay debits, for a selected bank account. It is not the same as cancelling one subscription. If you want to stop a single service, use the action available within that mandate. Treat Safety Switch as an emergency control: BHIM says your bank must assist with restoring UPI after it has been activated.
A monthly audit habit
Review active mandates against your bank statement once a month. If you no longer use a service, check its provider terms and then act on the correct mandate. Avoid publicly sharing screenshots containing account or payment details. Cancelling a mandate after a debit does not automatically refund that earlier payment.
