Impeachment is easy in a slogan and hard in Parliament. As of 3 October 2026 Gyanesh Kumar is still CEC. Two notices were rejected. An April Rajya Sabha notice signed by 73 MPs is described as pending. A third push was reported in late September.
Three attempts
The first set was 12 March 2026: 63 Rajya Sabha MPs and 130 Lok Sabha MPs. On 6 April Chairman C P Radhakrishnan and Speaker Om Birla rejected them. On 24 April a fresh Rajya Sabha notice carried 73 signatures and nine charges of proven misbehaviour. Jairam Ramesh said it went to the Secretary General. That notice is still pending. India Today reported on 28 September that the opposition was preparing fresh notices in both Houses, folding in the internal-objection report.
