Vote chori is not a new penal section. On the street in 2026 it is the allegation that eligible names were cut from the rolls to tilt results. The opposition, CJP and some student groups say this. The Election Commission and the government say the Special Intensive Revision removes duplicates and ineligible entries. Both sentences cannot be treated as proved until names are checked one by one.

Ordinary reasons a name drops
Names drop after death, a shift of constituency, duplication, an unverified address or an incomplete form. None of those is automatically theft. The allegation bites when an eligible voter is removed without a chance to object. A national slogan and a household case do not fit in one sentence.
On 2 October a Delhi woman, Mina Giri, told AFP she had voted for 15 years and then found her name gone. That is one testimony, not national proof. Such stories drive search because every family wants the same check.
Who is demanding what
CJP wants Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, a halt to SIR and a freeze of the 2025 list. AISA and some lawyers use impeachment language. The INDIA bloc is marching. Resignation is political. Impeachment is parliamentary. A freeze is administrative. Do not collapse them into one click.
Rahul Gandhi spoke of the lathi and the right to vote. That is the opposition line. The ruling side has denied the allegations. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said the charges had been answered.
