How much is OBC reservation has more than one answer. In central jobs and education it is 27 percent, after the Mandal Commission and the 1992 Indra Sawhney case. That case set a 50 percent ceiling on total reservation, with a narrow exception for remote areas. It kept the creamy layer out.
States differ
States keep their own lists and percentages. Madhya Pradesh tried to move from 14 to 27 and the case is still on. Jharkhand groups also speak of 27. Maharashtra’s Maratha push into the OBC quota is a new claim on top of the percentage. Do not paste one state’s number on the country.
Above 50
Some states tried to cross 50. The Supreme Court has not accepted every try. No fresh exemption was public for this article. A question is allowed. A verdict is a different sentence.
