Empty Box Delivered and Refund Rejected? Amazon–Flipkart Complaint Steps

Empty box delivered and refund rejected: what next?

You ordered a phone or another valuable item, received a parcel without the product, and were told that the correct item was dispatched. Move from repeated calls to a documented complaint. Preserve the packaging, request the rejection reason and present a consistent account through the platform, consumer-grievance and eligible payment-dispute channels.

An unboxing video can help but does not guarantee a refund. If none exists, complain with the evidence you do have. An empty parcel alone does not establish who removed the goods or whether an individual acted dishonestly.

FACT: “Delivered” may record the parcel’s arrival. A separate dispute can concern its contents. Distinguish “the parcel never arrived” from “the parcel arrived without the ordered item”.

Preserve an evidence file before discarding anything

  • Purchase: order ID, invoice, seller identity, amount and payment reference.
  • Parcel: outer box, seals, label, protective packaging and any wrong item actually received.
  • Timeline: delivery, opening and first report; any independently available CCTV or other records.
  • Correspondence: ticket references, chats, emails, investigation responses and rejection screenshots.
  • Video: preserve the original unedited file; submit a copy using the channel’s supported format.

Do not recreate an opening and present it as the original event. Record only what happened. Keep complete label photographs privately, but redact addresses, phone numbers and financial identifiers from public posts.

A short index—invoice, payment, parcel photographs, video and complaint responses—helps another person follow the case without searching through a long chat history.

Escalate inside the platform accurately

Check the order details for split shipments first. Report the actual issue from the relevant order: missing item, empty package or wrong product. Check the order’s return/reporting window and act promptly.

If rejected, request a review linked to the existing case. Identify the evidence supplied and ask for the reason. Where relevant, request preservation and review of packing, dispatch-weight, seal and delivery records. Access to every internal record is not guaranteed.

Escalate to the grievance officer listed on the official platform website. For Amazon India, use the official app or website to request chat or a callback. Avoid customer-service numbers supplied by unknown search results or callers.

For eligible Open Box Delivery orders, complete the prescribed inspection before confirming acceptance. Point out missing, wrong or damaged contents at delivery. If you already supplied the acceptance OTP, describe exactly what happened and any inspection failure; do not invent a different sequence.

Use National Consumer Helpline / INGRAM

The National Consumer Helpline, also available through 1915, is a pre-litigation grievance route. It is different from a Consumer Commission order.

  1. Register/sign in and choose the appropriate consumer/e-commerce category.
  2. Identify the platform and seller from the invoice, along with order, date and amount.
  3. Give a concise chronology: what was ordered, what arrived, when it was reported and the response.
  4. Attach relevant records; check the current portal’s facilities for large video evidence.
  5. Keep the docket reference and respond factually to company updates.

State the remedy sought, such as refund of the price of the missing item and appropriate return arrangements. A docket does not guarantee a refund or automatically create a Commission case.

Match the payment route to the actual dispute

Payment Next enquiry
Credit/debit card Ask the issuer about an eligible goods-not-received or not-as-described dispute, evidence and deadline.
UPI Report the merchant problem to the app/bank. Ordinary bank-account UPI is not a card chargeback.
Cash on delivery Use payment evidence and merchant/consumer routes; a cash purchase has no card chargeback.

If you authorised the purchase, do not falsely select “unauthorised transaction”. Explain that the payment was authorised but the ordered goods were missing or different. Let the issuer identify the appropriate dispute category.

Contact the issuer promptly: deadlines vary, and a merchant investigation can outlast a filing window. Temporary credit is not final recovery. Ask for written billing/EMI instructions rather than simply withholding payment. Report any later merchant refund so the same loss is not recovered twice.

Two short complaint templates

Platform/grievance officer: Subject: Order [ID]—empty/missing-item delivery, refund review. I paid [amount] for [item] on [date]. The parcel arrived on [date], containing [accurate description]. Complaint [reference] was rejected on [date]. Please review the attached invoice, parcel evidence, available original video and correspondence, explain the rejection and provide an appropriate refund/remedy. If return is required, please provide official collection instructions.

Card issuer: I authorised the payment of [amount] to [merchant] on [date]. My dispute concerns goods not received/as described. I attach the merchant complaint reference and response. Please confirm the applicable purchase-dispute process, filing deadline, evidence requirements and billing instructions.

Use truthful details and submit private identifiers only through official channels. These are general complaint drafts, not a personalised lawyer-reviewed legal notice.

Advice: separate consumer proceedings from police reporting

If unresolved, review filing a complaint before the appropriate Consumer Commission through e-Jagriti. Prepare the chronology, correct legal identities of relevant parties, invoice, payment, correspondence, evidence and remedy sought. Check jurisdiction, fees and limitation requirements for your facts.

Report factual evidence of suspected theft, tampering or fraud to police where appropriate. A refund rejection is not automatically criminal fraud. Do not accuse a delivery worker without evidence or threaten a fabricated e-FIR. Online FIR availability and procedure depend on the state and matter.

For an authorised pickup, retain the request, pickup reference and handover receipt. Do not provide OTPs, UPI PINs, remote access or a processing fee to an unknown person promising recovery.

Frequently asked questions

Does an unboxing video guarantee a refund?

No. It is evidence; other records and investigation can also matter.

Can I complain without a video?

Yes. Present your invoice, parcel, photographs, chronology and correspondence honestly.

Will a chargeback return money immediately?

Not necessarily. Eligibility and investigation apply; temporary credit can be reversed.

Are NCH and Consumer Commission the same?

No. NCH facilitates pre-litigation grievance handling; a Commission complaint is a separate proceeding.

Does sharing a delivery OTP end all options?

It may be relevant evidence. Describe the inspection accurately and seek review or advice on available remedies.
