MOBIKINS MK-PB-04 Power Bank Flight Ban: Cabin, Check-in and Cargo Rules

MOBIKINS MK-PB-04 Power Bank Flight Ban: Check the Exact Model

Check the full model number before packing a powerbank for a flight. Official airline information confirms a restriction on MOBIKINS MK-PB-04 for India-related flights. This does not mean every powerbank is banned, and putting the named model in a smaller or different bag does not resolve the restriction.

This guide reflects Air India, Nepal Airlines and battery-safety information checked on 15 October 2026. Open the current airline links before travelling. A previous journey or another passenger passing through screening does not establish permission for your upcoming flight.

Which model is restricted, and where?

Air India’s restricted-baggage page names MOBIKINS MK-PB-04 in a DGCA prohibition. Nepal Airlines’ 13 October notice cites DGCA AIC 14/2026 and covers cabin/hand baggage, checked baggage and cargo on flights within, to and from India.

MOBIKINS MK-PB-04Restriction
Cabin / hand baggageNot permitted
Checked baggageNot permitted
CargoNot permitted
ScopeFlights within, from and to India

This named-model prohibition is more than advice not to use the device during a flight. Carriage itself is covered. Moving it from a hand bag to a checked suitcase, or sending it as air cargo, is not an alternative way to comply.

FACT BOX — report date versus order date

  • Nepal Airlines published its notice on 13 October 2026.
  • New Indian Express and PTI date the DGCA communication to 29 September.
  • Do not reverse the chronology by treating the 11 October IndiGo event as the reason this earlier order was issued.
  • Before travel, match the physical device’s model with the current airline policy.

New Indian Express explicitly reports that the circular preceded the 11 October Delhi–Chennai diversion. PTI’s 14 October coverage also gives September 29 and notes that details of the particular incident could not be established. This article does not identify a device in a viral video as this model without confirmation.

How to identify your powerbank

Read the printed label on the back or edge of the device. Match the brand and complete model code; colour, shape or a capacity such as “20,000 mAh” is not a unique model identifier. Similar-looking products can be different models, and an online listing may not exactly match the unit you own.

If an ordinary external cover obscures the label, read it using normal safe handling. Do not open the battery casing, undo screws or remove cells to identify it. If the label is unreadable, ask the seller or manufacturer’s official support to clarify the model.

Covering identification with another sticker or changing a model label is not a remedy. If identification is uncertain and travel is imminent, contact the airline before leaving. Do not bring the prohibited unit. The generic battery in this article’s illustrations is not an identification photograph of the actual product.

Can you still take other powerbanks?

Do not interpret this specific ban as automatic clearance for every other device. Airline conditions concerning capacity, quantity, condition, packing and route still matter. Read the relevant carrier’s rules, including IndiGo’s dangerous-goods list or Air India’s current policy.

Air India also instructs passengers not to put powerbanks and spare batteries in overhead bins. Do not combine selected limits from different carriers into a new universal rule. With connecting flights, check each operating carrier and any applicable transit requirements.

A large mAh number or a marketing claim such as “flight safe” is not a complete answer. Give the airline the model, capacity information printed on the device and your route when seeking clarification. This guide does not certify an unknown replacement device as airline-approved.

What if you have already reached the airport?

If the named model has accidentally been packed, inform airline or security personnel before boarding. Do not conceal it in another pocket, a companion’s bag or a parcel. Ask about the applicable process and follow the instructions given.

For another permitted powerbank, reassess packing if a cabin bag is taken at the gate for loading in the hold. IATA’s gate-check guidance says to remove lithium devices and batteries first. This packing advice for permitted items does not grant cabin permission for the banned model.

A receipt or support correspondence may help explain which device you have, but paperwork does not remove a restriction. This article does not promise a refund, airport storage, return courier or later recovery of surrendered property. Ask the relevant provider about any such arrangements rather than assuming they are available.

ADVICE — a short pre-flight checklist

  • Read the model number at home and pack only what is needed.
  • Reopen the operating airline’s official baggage policy.
  • Check permission to carry separately from permission to use or charge onboard.
  • Review family members’ bags as well as your own electronics pouch.

What if a powerbank gets hot, swollen or smoky?

IATA’s battery-safety guidance says to alert cabin crew or airport staff immediately about unusual heat, damage or smoke. Do not attempt to relocate or cool the device yourself. Switch it off only if that can be done safely, then follow staff instructions.

Do not travel with a swollen, punctured or damaged battery. If a device slips beside an aircraft seat, call the crew rather than moving the seat to retrieve it. The purpose of this advice is prompt reporting, not a do-it-yourself firefighting procedure for passengers.

A flight restriction on a named model does not by itself establish a nationwide retail recall, guaranteed refund or a finding that every unit is defective. Seek written guidance from the seller or manufacturer about support, return or safe disposal. Opening or burning a battery is not a safe disposal method.

Five questions about the powerbank ban

Are all powerbanks banned? This notice names one model. Other devices remain subject to applicable airline restrictions.

Can this model go in checked baggage? No. The table above describes the restriction on this particular model.

What about a new, sealed unit? The checked model-specific notices provide no such exemption. Do not assume that new packaging grants permission.

Is being within a normal capacity limit enough? No. A named-model prohibition is separate from capacity and packing conditions.

Where is the original DGCA circular? Nepal Airlines’ official notice cites AIC 14/2026. This article does not present an independently retrieved original DGCA PDF; it clearly identifies airline notices and attributed reporting as its sources.
