Final Exam Minimum Score Calculator

Final Exam Minimum Score Calculator
exam wide — VH Original tool cover

Find the final exam score you need from your coursework average, exam weighting and target grade.

How to use the calculator

Enter your average across completed coursework, not your current total weighted contribution. Enter the final exam weight from your syllabus, your target overall percentage and the maximum marks available in the final. Select Calculate to see the required exam percentage and the minimum whole marks.

Understanding the formula

Completed work contributes coursework average × (100 − final weight) ÷ 100. Subtract that contribution from the target grade, then divide by the final weight and multiply by 100. This assumes all remaining assessment is the final exam and every component uses the same percentage scale.

Worked example

If coursework averages 80%, the final is worth 40%, and the overall target is 75%, completed work contributes 48 percentage points. The final must supply another 27 points. You need 67.5% in the final, or at least 68 whole marks in a 100-mark exam.

Already achieved or impossible targets

A required score at or below zero means your target has already been met mathematically. A result above 100% means the target is unreachable with these weights. These outcomes do not override minimum exam passing requirements, attendance rules or mandatory assessment completion.

Rounding and course rules

The whole-mark result rounds upward so a fractional requirement is not underestimated. If your course awards fractional marks, uses curved grades, drops assignments or applies a separate pass threshold, consult its policy. This tool calculates a percentage target and does not convert it into a guaranteed CGPA.

Privacy and practical tips

The calculator makes no API calls and does not submit grades. The website itself may have its normal analytics. Copy or download the result for your study plan. Changing any input clears the old result so you can recalculate without mistaking it for the new target.

Frequently asked questions

Can it calculate CGPA?

No. It calculates an overall percentage target.

Why does a target exceed 100%?

The completed grades and final weight leave too few points available.
