Copied text from a PDF and ended up with a break after every line? Paste it below, join the broken lines and remove extra spaces. Review the result, then copy it or download a plain text file.
Clean text copied from a PDF
Paste text below. It stays in this browser; this tool does not upload it.
How to use the PDF text cleaner
- Copy text from your PDF and paste it into the Original text box. You can also try the built-in example first.
- Keep the default mode to join lines while preserving paragraphs separated by blank lines. Choose Keep existing line breaks for a list, poem or address.
- Select the cleanup options you need. Extra-space removal is on by default; English hyphen joining and ligature expansion are optional.
- Click Clean text. Compare the original with the output before using it.
- Copy the cleaned text or download a UTF-8 TXT file for your notes or document.
A before-and-after example
A paragraph copied from a PDF might look like this:
Text copied from a PDF can break after every line. Keep this second paragraph.
With the default mode, the first two lines join together. The blank line keeps the next paragraph separate:
Text copied from a PDF can break after every line. Keep this second paragraph.
This is useful when preparing reading notes, quotes or a draft in a text editor. Check the wording and keep any attribution that belongs with the source.
Choose the right cleanup mode
Join lines, keep paragraphs: a useful starting point for prose. Single line breaks become spaces, while blank-line paragraph boundaries remain. If the copied text has no blank lines, the tool cannot infer where the author intended a new paragraph.
Join all lines: turns the text into one paragraph. Use this when you want continuous text, rather than for tables, lists or poetry.
Keep existing line breaks: preserves the line structure while applying your selected spacing options.
Join hyphenated English words: joins cases such as exam- followed by ple on the next line. A real compound word can also match, so this option is off by default. Review each result if you enable it.
Expand ligatures: changes the selected English ligature characters, such as fi, into ordinary letters such as fi. It does not perform a broad Unicode rewrite.
Hindi support and privacy
You can paste ordinary Hindi and English text. The cleaner does not remove Hindi vowel marks or the joining characters used by some Indic text and emoji. It is not a spell checker, translator or legacy-font converter, and it cannot restore text that was extracted incorrectly.
The tool processes your text in this browser. It does not upload the pasted text or save it in local storage. The input limit is 200,000 characters per run; split a longer document into smaller sections.
Common problems
If separate paragraphs merge, add a blank line between them in the original box, or switch to Keep existing line breaks. The cleaner does not reconstruct multi-column reading order, tables or headings from a PDF.
If you cannot select or copy text from the PDF, it may be a scanned image. This page does not upload PDFs or run OCR. Use a suitable text-extraction tool first, then review the extracted text.
If copying is unavailable in your browser, select the output and copy it manually. Keep your original document, especially when the text is important.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove line breaks from PDF text?
Paste the copied text, choose the paragraph-preserving mode and click Clean text. Review the output, then copy or download it.
Does this tool extract text from a PDF?
No. It cleans text you have already copied. PDF upload, OCR and PDF-to-Word conversion are not included.
Can I keep paragraph breaks?
Yes. The default mode preserves paragraphs separated by blank lines. A single line break is treated as a wrapped line and replaced with a space.
Does it work with Hindi?
Yes, for ordinary Unicode Hindi text. It does not convert Krutidev or repair incorrect character extraction.
Will it change my words?
The default cleanup changes line breaks and spacing. Optional hyphen joining or ligature expansion can change character sequences, so review the output.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The two text boxes stack on smaller screens. Your browser needs JavaScript; you can copy the result or download a TXT file.
What does the download contain?
A UTF-8 plain text file. It includes the cleaned text, without the original PDF’s font choices, page layout or table formatting.
