MOV to MP4 Converter Online – Convert MOV Videos

Convert a short MOV video to MP4 on your device. Choose your file, set maximum dimensions, preview the converted video and download the result. Your original MOV stays unchanged.

Convert your MOV video to MP4

Choose a MOV up to 50 MB and 3 minutes. Your video stays on your device. Conversion runs at playback speed; keep this tab visible.

MP4 format requested by this browser:

Output codecs depend on your browser. MP4 does not guarantee H.264/AAC or compatibility with every player or upload service. This is a new video recording, with up to 30 fps, rather than lossless container conversion.

How to convert MOV to MP4 online

  1. Choose a MOV file up to 50 MB and between 0.5 seconds and 3 minutes long.
  2. Check that its picture and sound play in the original preview.
  3. Choose a maximum longest side: 1280, 720 or 480 px.
  4. Click Convert MOV to MP4 and keep this tab visible.
  5. Wait while the full video plays through the local conversion process.
  6. Play the result, check sound and duration, then download the MP4.

A real MP4 file, with browser-dependent codecs

This converter creates a new video recording inside an MP4 container. It does not simply rename .mov to .mp4. Where the browser supports the requested H.264/AAC recording combination, that is tried first. Otherwise the browser’s supported MP4 recording mode chooses its codecs.

MP4 describes a container, not one fixed video codec. A browser may produce MP4 with VP9 video or Opus audio rather than H.264 and AAC. The output MIME type reported by the recorder appears when conversion finishes. This tool does not promise that the file will work in WhatsApp, an older television, every editor or every upload form.

If a service requires H.264 video and AAC audio specifically, check the exported file’s codecs or use a converter that explicitly provides that combination. Being able to play a MOV in the browser also does not automatically mean the browser can record MP4.

What happens during conversion?

The browser decodes your video, draws its frames to a canvas and records the picture with decoded audio. Conversion runs at roughly playback speed. An eight-second source therefore needs about eight seconds of recording time, plus setup and finalisation.

This is a re-encode, not a lossless change of container. Quality, timing, frame rate, colours and file size can change. The video capture is set to up to 30 fps. It does not preserve HDR, high-frame-rate video, subtitles, chapters, extra audio tracks or original camera metadata. Check the exported result before using it.

Choose dimensions for your result

The default maximum longest side is 1280 px. For a 1920 × 1080 landscape video, that becomes 1280 × 720. For a portrait source, the height is the longest side. A smaller video is not enlarged.

Dimensions are rounded down to even pixels for recording, so an unusual aspect ratio can shift slightly. Choose 720 or 480 px if you want a smaller output or your device struggles with the original. Output size is not guaranteed to be below a particular number of MB, and an MP4 can be larger than its MOV source.

Sound and silent videos

When the browser can decode the source audio, it is passed into the new recording. Preview the beginning and end to check that the sound is present and stays in sync. A source with no sound cannot gain missing audio; the output may contain a silent audio track.

This version is for ordinary short videos. It does not preserve separate commentary tracks, surround-sound layouts or an exact original audio encoding. If your MOV contains a codec that the browser cannot decode, conversion may fail even when the filename looks correct.

Privacy and limits

Your selected video is processed locally in this browser. Its bytes are not uploaded to a conversion server, and conversion does not call a third-party conversion API. The site supplies the tool’s code. Keep your source file for further editing.

Use one non-empty MOV up to 50 MB and 3 minutes. Source edges must not exceed 8192 px. The browser needs video decoding, MP4 recording, canvas capture and Web Audio support. Larger or unusual files may still fail within those limits. A current desktop browser can be easier to use for this task than a phone.

If MOV to MP4 conversion fails

If the original will not load, it may use an unsupported codec or be damaged. If the tool reports that MP4 recording is unavailable, try another up-to-date browser. There is no WebM file disguised as MP4 fallback.

Keep the tab in the foreground throughout recording. Switching away stops the job rather than offering an unreliable partial file. Cancel also discards the current recording. If playback stalls, try a smaller source or lower maximum dimensions, then start again.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a MOV file to MP4?

Select your MOV, choose dimensions and click Convert MOV to MP4. Preview the new video and download it after conversion finishes.

Is this just changing the file extension?

No. The browser decodes and records a new video in an MP4 container. Your original MOV is unchanged.

Will the MP4 work on WhatsApp?

Compatibility is not guaranteed. The codecs depend on your browser, while some services require H.264 and AAC specifically. Test the downloaded file in your intended app.

Will the converted video keep its sound?

Decoded source audio is included when available. Check the output preview for missing sound, timing or sync changes.

Are my MOV videos uploaded?

No. Your selected file is processed on your device in this browser.

Why does conversion take as long as playback?

This version records the source while it plays. Keep the tab visible and allow about the video’s duration plus a little setup time.

Can I convert a long or large MOV?

This version accepts up to 50 MB and 3 minutes. Use a shorter source if your file is larger or your device cannot handle it.
