Add page numbers to a report, notes, a scanned PDF or a merged document without recreating its original pages. Number every page or only selected ranges, choose a starting number, and place the numbers at the bottom center, bottom right or top center. The original text and images remain in the PDF, with new number text added on top.

Limits and tips for a useful result
Selected pages are numbered in ascending document order; repeated page entries are counted once. Unselected pages receive no new numbers. In the “1 / 10” style, the denominator is the final number of the selected sequence, not necessarily the original PDF page count. For example, selecting pages 1 and 3 and starting at 5 produces 5 / 6 and 6 / 6. Selected pages must have a 0° rotation; rotate them upright first. This tool does not remove old printed page numbers and modifying a signed PDF can invalidate its signature.
Privacy and downloads
The selected file or text is processed in this browser. Keep the tab open until processing finishes. Internet may be needed to load conversion libraries. The download is saved to your device; open and inspect it before use. Selecting a new input clears the previous result.
Frequently asked questions
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. For a 10-page PDF, choose 2-10 and start at 1 to leave the cover without a new number.
Will the text remain searchable?
Existing searchable text is retained. A scanned PDF remains scanned; this tool does not run OCR.
What does the denominator mean?
In the total format it is the final number of the chosen numbering sequence. With two selected pages starting at 5, the labels are 5 / 6 and 6 / 6.
Are password-protected PDFs supported?
No. Use an authorized unencrypted copy. The tool does not unlock or bypass passwords.
Can I number rotated pages?
Selected pages must have a 0° rotation. Rotate them upright in a suitable PDF editor before numbering.
Can I remove existing numbers?
No. New numbers are overlaid. Choose a clear margin and inspect the downloaded PDF for overlap.
