Convert an MP4 video to MP3 and keep just the sound. Choose your video, pick a bitrate, listen to the result and download the audio. Your selected file is processed on your device.
Convert your MP4 video to MP3
Choose an MP4 up to 50 MB and 5 minutes. The full decoded audio track is converted on your device. Your video is not uploaded.
Original video — check that it has sound
A higher bitrate cannot restore quality missing from the original. Only one decoded mono or stereo audio track is converted.
Listen to the beginning and end before downloading.

Get audio from a video you already have
Have a short recorded lesson, interview, voice note saved as a video, or a clip you made yourself? This tool lets you save its audio separately. The MP3 contains sound only; pictures and subtitles are not included.
For example, an eight-second MP4 with speech or music becomes an MP3 of approximately the same audio length. A portrait video works the same way as a landscape video because the output does not contain video frames.
This converter works with a file on your device. It does not accept YouTube, Instagram or other video links, bypass downloads, or unlock protected content. Use your own recordings or files you have permission to convert.
Which MP3 bitrate should I choose?
128 kbps usually makes the smallest file among these choices. Try it for spoken recordings when keeping the download small matters. The 192 kbps default is a useful starting point for general audio. Choose 320 kbps if you prefer a larger MP3 and want to compare the result with your source.
A higher number does not recover detail that is missing from the original. If your video already has low-quality audio, converting it at 320 kbps can make the file bigger without making it sound better.
As a rough example, one minute of audio at 128 kbps is about 0.96 MB, at 192 kbps about 1.44 MB, and at 320 kbps about 2.4 MB. Encoder padding and file overhead can change the final size slightly.
A real MP3, with a new audio encoding
The browser decodes the MP4 audio, then the MP3 encoder creates an actual MP3 file. This is more than changing the extension from .mp4 to .mp3. It also means the original compressed audio is encoded again, so conversion is not lossless.
The decoded audio is resampled to 44.1 kHz for encoding. Mono stays mono and stereo stays stereo when the browser returns those channels. This version supports one decoded audio track; it does not offer a selector for multiple language tracks or preserve surround sound, video chapters, subtitles or original metadata.
MP3 encoding can add a small amount of padding at the beginning or end. The result panel shows the decoded source-audio duration, rather than promising an identical MP3 duration down to the millisecond. Always listen to the exported preview.
Privacy and file limits
Your chosen video is read and converted locally in this browser. Its bytes are not uploaded to a conversion server, and the tool does not send your file to a third-party conversion API. The site supplies the code and embedded MP3 encoder.
Choose one MP4 between 0.1 seconds and 5 minutes, up to 50 MB. Only mono or stereo audio within the decoding limit is supported. The browser needs Web Audio and worker support, plus a decoder for the audio inside your MP4.
File extension alone does not prove that the contents can be decoded. A file within the size limit can still fail if it is damaged, uses an unsupported codec, or exceeds your device’s available memory. Keep the page open until conversion finishes.
No sound, or conversion will not start?
If the MP4 has no audio track, there is no sound to extract. The tool shows a decoding message instead of offering a made-up MP3. An unsupported audio codec can cause the same error, even if another video player opens the file.
If your recording contains an audio track that is already silent, the resulting MP3 can also be silent. This tool cannot recover sound that was never recorded.
Try a smaller playable MP4 or another up-to-date browser if decoding fails. Renaming a different file format to .mp4 does not convert it. Cancel stops the current job and removes any partial result; you can choose another file or convert again.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert an MP4 video to MP3?
Select your local MP4, choose a bitrate and click Convert MP4 to MP3. Listen to the output, then download the MP3.
Does the MP3 include the video?
No. The output contains audio only. Your original MP4 is unchanged.
Can I convert a YouTube link to MP3 here?
No. This tool accepts local MP4 files, not links. Use a recording you own or have permission to convert.
Which is better: 128, 192 or 320 kbps?
Higher bitrates make larger files and can preserve more detail during encoding, but cannot improve a poor source. Start at 192 kbps and compare the exported sound.
Why is the downloaded MP3 slightly longer?
MP3 encoders can add padding. The decoded audio duration shown by the tool and the final MP3 playback duration can differ slightly.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser on your device.
Why does my MP4 say no decodable audio was found?
It may have no audio track, an unsupported audio codec, or damaged contents. Try a known playable MP4 with sound.
