Video Compressor Online – Reduce Video Size to Target MB

Video Compressor Online – Reduce Video Size to Target MB

Make a short video smaller for an upload or sharing limit. Choose your file, set a target in MB and download the compressed result after checking its picture and sound.

Reduce video size

Choose a video up to 100 MB and 5 minutes. Target MB is approximate. Keep this tab visible until it finishes; processing takes about the video’s length.

How to reduce video size online

  1. Choose a video your browser can play, up to 100 MB and 5 minutes.
  2. Enter a target smaller than the original file. MB here means 1,000,000 bytes.
  3. Choose a maximum long edge: 720, 480 or 360 pixels. Smaller dimensions can help with a tight limit.
  4. Click Compress video and keep this tab visible. Processing takes roughly the clip’s duration and may take longer on a slower device.
  5. Play the result, check the sound and actual size, then download it.

Compress a video to 10 MB or 20 MB

For a 30 MB clip, you can try a 10 MB target and a 720-pixel long edge. For a strict upload limit, aim a little lower, such as 9 MB for a 10 MB allowance, then check the actual downloaded file. A 15 MB original does not need a 20 MB target; choose a target below its current size.

The target is approximate. The browser controls the encoder and may produce a file above or below the requested size. This tool shows the real output size and warns if it exceeds your target or becomes larger than the original. It does not pad a smaller file or guarantee an exact size.

What changes in the compressed video?

The tool plays your selected file into a new recording at up to 30 frames per second. It reduces the bitrate and can shrink the image dimensions while preserving the aspect ratio. It does not upscale a smaller source. “720 pixels” means the longest edge, not a guaranteed 720p frame; a 1920 × 1080 clip becomes 720 × 404 after even-pixel rounding.

The clip’s sound is routed into the recording. A silent source remains silent. This process re-encodes the video; it is not lossless and can soften fine details, change the frame rate or flatten HDR color. Subtitles, extra audio tracks, chapters and original metadata are not copied as separate tracks. Check the result before using it.

MP4 or WebM: check the output format

The format shown inside the tool is selected from recording formats supported by your browser. MP4 is used when supported; otherwise the result may be WebM. Even an MP4 result may use a codec that some phones or upload services do not accept; test it in the receiving app. A WebM result has a .webm extension. Renaming it to .mp4 does not convert it. If an upload form accepts only MP4, use a browser that shows MP4 here or convert the result with a suitable video converter.

MP4, MOV and WebM input support depends on the codecs your browser can decode. An extension alone does not guarantee compatibility. This version is intended for short clips; it is not a batch or long-movie compressor.

Privacy and practical limits

The compression code reads and processes the selected video in this browser. It does not upload the video to our server, request microphone/camera access or store it in browser storage. The site can still load its usual assets and analytics. The original file stays on your device; downloading creates another file.

Input limit: 100 MB, duration up to 5 minutes, and a readable video frame no larger than 8192 pixels on either edge. Target range: 0.1–100 MB. Very low targets are rejected when they leave too little bitrate for the duration. Keep the tab in the foreground and the device awake. Switching tabs stops the current job and discards its partial result.

Browser support and performance vary. If recording is unavailable or fails, try an up-to-date desktop Chrome or Edge with a smaller clip. Mobile devices may run out of memory or pause playback; this tool does not promise support on every phone.

Common problems

The result is above the target: lower the target slightly or choose 480/360 pixels, then check the new result. A hard file-size limit needs this final check.

The picture is blurry: increase the target or keep a larger resolution. Shortening a clip can help retain more detail within the same file-size allowance.

Compression stopped: keep this tab visible and the device awake. If playback stalls, use a smaller file and close other demanding applications.

The upload rejects WebM: check the format label before starting. The result is not always MP4.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a video to 10 MB?

Choose the file, enter 10 MB or a little less, select a resolution and compress. Check the actual result; an exact 10 MB output is not guaranteed.

Can I reduce a video below 20 MB?

You can set a 20 MB target if the source is larger. For a strict limit, aim lower and confirm the downloaded size.

Does this compressor upload my video?

No. This tool’s compression code processes the selected file locally in your browser.

Will the video keep its sound?

The source’s playable audio is routed to the recording. Check the preview and downloaded file, especially if the original has multiple audio tracks.

Is the downloaded video always MP4?

No. The tool shows MP4 or WebM according to this browser’s recording support. The download extension matches the actual format.

Can I compress without losing quality?

This tool re-encodes the clip, so quality can change. A larger target and resolution usually allow more detail.

Why does compression take as long as the video?

The clip plays while the browser records a new version. Keep the tab visible until it finishes; a slow device may take longer.
