VCF to CSV & CSV to VCF Converter – Contact Files Online

Convert a VCF contact file into CSV, or turn a CSV contact list into a downloadable vCard. Preview names, phone numbers and emails before saving the result.

Convert contact files

UTF-8 vCard 3.0/4.0 ↔ comma-separated CSV. Names, phone numbers, emails, organization and notes only. Conversion happens in your browser.

CSV headers: Name, Phone1, Phone2 … Phone20, Email1 … Email20, Organization, Notes. Name is required. Import phone columns as Text; do not double-click CSV and expect every spreadsheet to preserve zeros.

How to convert VCF to CSV or CSV to VCF

  1. Select the conversion direction.
  2. Choose a UTF-8 file or paste its contents.
  3. For VCF to CSV, keep spreadsheet-safe mode on if you plan to edit the file in a spreadsheet.
  4. Click Convert contacts. Check the preview and any omitted-field notice.
  5. Download the converted file. Before importing it into your contacts app, check a few records and confirm the app’s duplicate-contact behavior.

What this contacts converter keeps

Each contact becomes one CSV row. Names, up to 20 phone numbers, up to 20 emails, organization and notes are included. A contact with two numbers gets Phone1 and Phone2 columns. Hindi names, international numbers and leading zeros remain text inside this tool.

Input VCF must be plain UTF-8 vCard 3.0 or 4.0. Output VCF uses vCard 3.0. Folded lines, escaped commas and multiline notes are supported. Phone URI prefixes such as tel: are removed from phone values. Duplicate contacts are retained; this tool does not merge or validate phone numbers.

CSV headings and a real example

Use exact headings: Name,Phone1,Email1,Organization,Notes. Name is required; other supported columns are optional. Add Phone2 through Phone20 and Email2 through Email20 for more values. Unknown or duplicate headings and uneven rows stop conversion instead of dropping columns.

The built-in example contains रीना Demo, an international-style number +910001234567, a second value 0012345, a demo email and a note across two lines. VCF to CSV produces one row with both numbers. CSV to VCF turns that row back into one contact. These are sample values, not verified working numbers.

Comma-containing cells must be quoted. Inside a quoted cell, write a double quote twice. This version accepts comma-separated CSV; semicolon-separated sheets or a Google/Outlook-specific export need their headings mapped to this format first.

Keep leading zeros when opening CSV in a spreadsheet

A CSV file cannot force every spreadsheet to treat a value as text. Double-clicking it may remove zeros, shorten a long number or interpret a plus sign. Use the spreadsheet’s text/CSV import and choose Text for phone columns.

Spreadsheet-safe mode prefixes every non-empty phone cell with an apostrophe, and does the same for cells starting like formulas, including =, +, – or @ after whitespace. This changes the exported CSV representation; some apps display the apostrophe. In CSV to VCF mode, the checked removal option removes that protective apostrophe from phone cells and formula-like values. Turn removal off if that character belongs to your original data. Spreadsheet-safe mode is a convenience, not a guarantee for every importer.

Limits, omitted fields and privacy

Limits are 2 MB per input file, one million characters, 5,000 contacts and 32,767 characters per cell. This is a converter for the listed fields, not a complete contact archive. Photos, addresses, birthdays, categories, custom fields and identifiers are omitted and their property names/counts are reported. Phone/email labels, preference settings and structured name components are not retained. Organization components are flattened into readable text.

Legacy vCard 2.1, quoted-printable/base64 encoded fields and non-UTF-8 charsets are rejected. Re-export as plain UTF-8 vCard 3.0 rather than guessing the encoding. The converter reads selected file contents in this browser; its conversion code does not send them to a server or save them in browser storage. The site itself can load its usual assets and analytics.

Common problems

“Use exact CSV headers”: rename a Mobile column to Phone1 and a Full Name column to Name. Keep the column count consistent in every row.

Old VCF rejected: check its VERSION and export settings. Re-export it as UTF-8 vCard 3.0. Renaming .vcf to .csv does not convert anything.

Numbers look different in Excel: check the downloaded text and import the phone columns as Text. If a spreadsheet already removed digits, this tool cannot recover them.

Some details disappeared: check the omitted-field notice. This version carries the listed fields only; a full export with photos and addresses needs another workflow.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert VCF to CSV online without uploading contacts?

Yes. Choose a file or paste its text; this converter processes that content in your browser and offers a download.

Can I turn CSV into a contacts VCF file?

Yes, with the supported exact headings. The result is a vCard 3.0 file. Compatibility and duplicate handling depend on the receiving contacts app.

Are multiple numbers kept in one contact?

Yes. Up to 20 phone numbers and 20 email addresses are kept as separate numbered CSV columns and repeated VCF properties.

Does this support Hindi contact names?

Yes. Use UTF-8 files. Names and notes are retained as Unicode text, including Hindi.

Why is there an apostrophe before a phone number?

Spreadsheet-safe export adds it to protect text-like values. The CSV-to-VCF removal option can undo the prefix used by this tool.

Does this keep contact photos and addresses?

No. Those fields are omitted with a notice. Phone/email labels and structured name fields also do not survive this conversion.

Does converting contacts merge duplicates or restore missing digits?

No. Each record stays separate, and the tool cannot reconstruct digits already lost in another app.
