Batch File Renamer Online – Bulk Rename & Download ZIP

Give a group of photos, documents or other files consistent names. Choose your files, set the rules, review the preview and download the renamed copies together.

Batch rename files

Choose files, preview new names, then download renamed copies in a ZIP. File contents stay in this browser.

Extensions stay unchanged. Find/replace is literal and case-sensitive, and applies only in original-name mode. Numbered mode always adds a number.

How to rename multiple files

  1. Choose several files in the file picker.
  2. Keep and edit the original names, or choose a new base name with numbers.
  3. Add a prefix or suffix if needed. Set the numbering order, start and minimum digits.
  4. Click Preview names and check every old/new pair.
  5. Click Create & download ZIP, then extract it to get the renamed files.

Two practical examples

To make a numbered photo set, choose New base name + numbers, enter Trip and use start 1 with 3 digits. Your files become Trip_001.jpg, Trip_002.png and so on, preserving each extension.

To edit existing names, keep original-name mode. For IMG 10.JPG, find IMG, replace it with Photo, add prefix Summer_ and enable whitespace replacement. The result is Summer_Photo_10.JPG. Add suffix _final to get Summer_Photo_10_final.JPG.

How the rules are applied

In original-name mode, literal find and replace changes all matching text in the base name, with exact letter case. An empty replacement removes that text; an empty Find field does nothing. Regex and whole-word matching are not included. New-base-name mode ignores find and replace.

Next, optional whitespace replacement changes whitespace in the base name to underscores. Numbered mode always adds an underscore and a sequence number; original-name mode does so only when its numbering checkbox is enabled. Prefix comes first and suffix comes just before the preserved extension. Whitespace in prefix or suffix is not changed by the whitespace option.

Minimum digits adds leading zeros, but never truncates a longer number. Choose selected file order or filename order before previewing. Filename order uses a natural sort, so IMG 2 usually comes before IMG 10; the preview shows the actual order.

Which files and how many?

Choose up to 200 individual files. Each file can be up to 20 MB, with 50 MB total. The tool copies the original bytes without reading or converting the document or image format. JPG, PNG, PDF, TXT and other file types can be selected within these limits.

Folders and folder structure are not included. All output files go into the ZIP root. An existing ZIP can be renamed as one file, but its internal entries are not renamed. The archive stores files without compression, so it is for packaging renamed copies rather than reducing their size.

Extensions and filename checks

The last extension stays unchanged, including its letter case. For archive.tar.gz, only .gz is treated as the extension and archive.tar is the base name. A dotfile such as .env has no extension in this tool. Renaming never converts a file format.

New names must fit 180 characters and 240 UTF-8 bytes. Slashes, Windows-reserved punctuation, control characters, trailing dots/spaces and reserved device names are rejected. Hindi names are supported within the byte limit. Duplicate new names are checked without letter case and with Unicode normalization, so extraction is less likely to overwrite another file.

If the preview reports a conflict

Two original names may become identical after replacing text. Add numbering, choose a different base name or change the rules, then preview again. Invalid names need shorter text or removal of unsupported characters. Editing any option clears the preview and disables ZIP creation until you preview again.

What happens to your original files?

The selected originals stay on your device with their existing names. This tool downloads renamed copies in a ZIP; it does not rename files in place. Processing happens in your browser without uploading file contents. Download before leaving the page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rename photos and PDFs together?

Yes. Their extensions and contents are preserved. Review the preview before downloading.

Does the tool rename my original files?

No. It creates a downloadable ZIP of renamed copies. Your selected originals keep their names.

How do I add 001, 002 and 003 to filenames?

Use numbered mode, or enable Add numbers to original names. Set start to 1 and minimum digits to 3.

Can I replace part of each filename?

Yes, in original-name mode. Matching is literal and case-sensitive and does not change the extension.

What if two files get the same new name?

ZIP creation is blocked until you change the rules or add numbering and preview again.

Are Hindi filenames supported?

Yes, within the filename length and UTF-8 byte limits. Unicode filenames are stored in the ZIP.

Is there an upload or file-size reduction?

File contents are not uploaded. The ZIP stores the renamed files without compression; it is not a file-size reducer.
